Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) helps to relieve withdrawal symptoms and cravings associated with stopping the intake of nicotine. NRT is available as patches, gum, lozenges, inhalers, and/or quickmist. Nicotinell Lozenges are used for relief of nicotine withdrawal symptoms and cravings and comes in two different strengths – 1mg and 2mg.

• Nicotinell 1mg Lozenges are for smokers who smoke 20 cigarettes or less a day.

• Nicotinell 1mg or 2mg Lozenges are for moderate smokers who smoke between 20-30 cigarettes per day

• Nicotinell 2mg Lozenges are for heavy smokers who smoke more than 30 cigarettes a day.

• Sufficient lozenges should be used each day, usually 8-12, up to a maximum of 15.

• Combination of NRTs can be used to help with cravings and the inhaler can be used in combination with NRT patches for the treatment of nicotine dependence.

• Continue use for up to six weeks to break the habit of smoking, then gradually reduce lozenge use. When daily use is 1-2 lozenges, use should be stopped.

• Nicotinell Lozenges are available in 24 and big value 96 packs.

• Suck the nicotine lozenge until you start tasting a strong flavour of nicotine.

• Let the lozenge rest between your cheek and gums until the taste begins to fade.

• Start sucking again.

• Repeat for about 30 minutes until the lozenge is dissolved completely.

• Remember, taking breaks between sucking is essential. If more nicotine is released than your mouth is able to absorb, you will end up swallowing it and not feeling the effects.

• If you feel an itchy sensation in your throat, burning in your stomach or experience hiccups or gas, then you should take longer breaks.

• Continue use for up to 6 weeks while reducing the number of lozenges per day. Once daily use is 1-2 lozenges a day, try to stop using them altogether.

• If you are having difficulty discontinuing using lozenges or you are unable to reduce your cigarette consumption after 6 weeks, consult a health care professional.
